Dorothy M. Ferry

Dorothy M. Ferry, 92, Roaring Spring, died Friday at UPMC Altoona hospital following an extended illness.

She was born in Claysburg, daughter of the late Charles O. and Mary E. (Mock) Eichelberger. Dorothy was previously engaged to Chrock Hann, who died unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident just prior to their wedding. She then married John Logan Ferry on May 20, 1950, in Mundy’s Corner. He died on Sept. 2, 1992.

She is survived three daughters: Barbara J. Whitsel and husband, Warren, of Blue Knob, Bonnie L. Forrester and partner, Jennifer Batovich, of Saxton, and Debbie Kay Ferry of Roaring Spring; and a sister, Catherine McNally of Roaring Spring.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Carl E., Elmer C. and John H.

Dorothy had attended First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring.

She had previously been employed at Puritan Manufacturing, the Martinsburg Cannery and the Spring Cove School District cafeteria. She also had volunteered with the Nason Hospital Auxiliary in the Nason Snack Bar.

She was a 1939 graduate of Replogle High School.

She enjoyed flowers, canning, homemaking and her grand-dogs.

At the request of the deceased there will be no viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in the Claysburg Union Cemetery, Pastor Ed Jelliff officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dorothy’s memory may be given to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602; or a charity of your choice.
