Audrey June Gority Ritchey
Audrey June Gority Ritchey, 89, Altoona, died Wednesday afternoon at the Tenley Rehabilitation Unit at Homewood at Martinsburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late George Leonard and Frances Elizabeth (Hooper) Wood. She was twice married, first to John M. Gority on April 1, 1945, in Altoona; he preceded her in death on April 17, 1991. She then married Harold Ritchey on May 18, 1996; he preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 2001.
Surviving are four children: Ronald J. Gority and wife, Jeannette, of Statesville, N.C., Debra S. Gority Pierce and Rebecca J. Fluke and husband, Timothy Mark, all of Martinsburg, and Todd T. Gority and wife, Dottie, of Greenwood; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Cindy Lane of Alexandria; two stepsons: Kenneth Ritchey in Indiana and Larry Ritchey of Duncansville; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Wood; and two sisters: Donna Weaver and Dolores Fox.
In her earlier years, June had been employed by Sylvania. She was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, where she was a member and past president of the Sunshine Sunday school class and a member of the Women’s Fellowship, Never Alone Girls and Wednesday Bible study group.
She was a volunteer for many years for the Blair County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and was a great patron of the National Humane Society and Smile Train, which aids children with a cleft palate.
June loved to drive and was the main driver for many of her friends. She was very active in church activities, as this was a large part of her life. She loved her family, grandchildren, step-grandchildren and their families. She will be remembered for her beauty both inside and out and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona. Interment will be made at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Altoona.
