Dorothy P. Pleshko
Dorothy Phyllis (Atkins) Pleshko, 90, Blue Knob, passed away unexpectedly Sunday at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Strumpshaw, England, daughter of the late Richard and Grace (Self) Atkins. She married Wesley Alfred Pleshko on Oct. 28, 1944, in Strumpshaw, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 2009, after 64 years of marriage.
Surviving are three children: Linda and Andrew, both of Blue Knob, and Larry and wife, Sheila, and their son, Nikolas, living in the Middle East; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins in England and Canada. She also is survived by two brothers: Tony and Terry Atkins, both of Strumpshaw, England.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven; and two siblings: Connie Stapleton and Richard, both of Strumpshaw, England.
Dorothy met her husband, a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran stationed in England, and came to the U.S. in 1946. She attended Mount Moriah United Methodist Church, Blue Knob, where she was the pianist for many years.
Dorothy was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, enjoyed going out to lunch and shopping and especially enjoyed her several trips each year to the beach at Cape Hatteras, N.C., where she loved walking and sitting beside the ocean. She was a kind and loving person who will be deeply missed by family and friends.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or funeral service. She will be cremated and interred next to her husband in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.
