Paul Meinhart

Paul Meinhart, 88, Bellwood, died Saturday.

He was born in Altoona, son of Charles and Edna (Albright) Meinhart.

Surviving are three sons: Gerald, Michael and David; and a daughter, Carol.

During the Great Depression, Paul worked at the Horseshoe Curve concession stand and helped his father paint houses to make ends meet. During WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet with distinction from 1943-46 in the Pacific Theater.

After the war, he married Eileen Sullivan on Oct. 25, 1946, who preceded him in death.

He worked for and retired from the phone company after three decades of service and was well known by many people in Bellwood and Tyrone for repairing their telephones. In retirement, he enjoyed working at home, helping others and going to Florida for the winter.

At the request of the family, there will be no services.
