G. Gerald “Jerry” Brumbaugh, 96, Roaring Spring, who died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Moose.

G. Gerald “Jerry” Brumbaugh, 96, Roaring Spring, died Wednesday evening at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness.

He was born in rural Martinsburg, son of the late Samuel and Josephine (Hoover) Brumbaugh. He married Elizabeth Keith on April 11, 1947, in Roaring Spring.

Surviving are his wife; five children: Patricia A. McGraw and husband, Floyd, of Fayetteville, Sandy Moose-McElroy and husband, Tom McElroy, of Jupiter, Fla., Daniel H. and wife, Ruby, of Roaring Spring, Samuel G. of Duncansville and Drusan Bithell of Roaring Spring; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Brumbaugh; two brothers: Richard and Harold; and a sister, M. Lois Hall.

Jerry was a 1935 graduate of Morrison Cove High School and also had taken engineering classes at Penn State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. as supervisor of the pre-stress division in 1977 after 38 years of service, and he had also served as Taylor Township supervisor for more than 18 years.

Jerry was a member of First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, where he served as deacon emeritus, served on the church board and sang in the church choir. He was also a member of Woodbury Lodge 539, F&AM, Jaffa Shrine, Murray-Appleman American Legion Post 147 and Ray-Camp VFW Post 7689 and was a previous member of the Woodbury Grange.

He enjoyed making maple syrup, caning chairs, making baskets, hunting, fishing, farming and delivering meals for Meals On Wheels.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, where a Masonic service will be held at 2:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the church by Pastor Joe Surin. Interment with military honors provided by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry’s memory may be given to First Church of the Brethren or Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
