Ann (Ribaric) Bakale

Ann (Ribaric) Bakale, 88, Patton, passed away Tuesday at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.

She was born in St. Michael, daughter of the late Anthony and Luba (Mandrogoc) Ribaric.

Surviving are a son, Dennis of Patton; two daughters: Genie (Bakale) Aldrich and husband, Alan, in Michigan and Pamela (Bakale) Newman in Texas; two grandchildren: Andrea and Matthew Newman in Texas; a sister, Louise (Ribaric) Patrick of Spangler; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew John Bakale, who was killed in a coal mining accident on Dec. 20, 1966; a son, Gary, on July 14, 2013; three sisters: Caroline Ribaric and twins Mildred Bakale and Mary Rafaus; and two brothers: Anthony Ribaric and infant Frank.

Ann grew up and worked on the family farm and married the neighbor farm boy, Matthew. She then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked in a bomb inspection factory while her husband served overseas during WWII. They then returned to Patton, where Ann lived in her present home for nearly 60 years. She was content to be a wife and mother.

At the age of 41, Ann was suddenly thrust into widowhood, where she faced the challenge of raising and providing for her children. Over the years, she treasured her garden and flowers, for which she won awards. She also loved cooking, baking, square dancing and watching sports. However, most of all, she enjoyed being involved in and caring for her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 8, 2013, at McCabe Funeral Home, Patton, where a Catholic Blessing Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, with the Benedictine Fathers. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Patton.
