Thomas J. Leyo

Thomas J. Leyo, 60, Gallitzin, died Thursday at his home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph and Regina (Plisinski) Leyo. He married Mary Billy on Oct. 17, 1981, at St. Patrick’s Church.

Surviving are his wife; two sons: Justin (Michelle) of Altoona and Aaron of Hagerstown, Md.; a granddaughter, Rosalynne; two sisters: Mary Lou (Chris) Zimmerman of Cresson and Margaret “Peggy” (Mike) Conners of Morristown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was a 1971 graduate of Penn Cambria High School. He worked for Norfolk Southern as a welder and retired in 2005. He was a member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, where he was active in helping with the cooking for church dinners. He also belonged to Gallitzin Sportsmen’s Association, Sons of the American Legion, Gallitzin, and ProCare Fitness and was a social member of Ashville VFW.

Tom enjoyed riding his motorcycle and hunting.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, the Rev. Albert Ledoux as celebrant. Committal will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society in Tom’s memory.
