Nevins Hendrix Wilburn

Nevins Hendrix Wilburn, 76, Elizabethville, passed away Oct. 16, 2013, at his son’s home in Lebanon surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Martinsburg, W.Va., son of the late William Alonzo and Elizabeth (Emerson) Wilburn. His wife, Deborah D. Wilburn, passed away in 2009.

He fathered three children with Ann (Erdman) Scatena: Theodore, Ruth Stadheim and Matthew. In addition to these, he is survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister, Polly Starliper.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William; and a sister, Francis May.

Nevins was a 1959 “Brother Rat” graduate of Virginia Military Institute, where he studied civil engineering. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Strayer University.

Nevins worked for Duquesne Light in the Pennsylvania area and in 1972 moved to Bismarck, N.D., to work with Basin Electric Power Cooperative. In 1993, he relocated to Fredericksburg and Lexington, Va., with Rappahannock Electric Cooperative. He retired in 2004 and moved to Altoona with his wife, Deborah, and they later again moved to Tyrone.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 26, 2013, at Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, 601 Albert St., Martinsburg, W.Va., with fellowship to follow at the church. Burial was held at Pleasant View Memory Gardens at the convenience of the family.
