Hedy B. DelBaggio

Hedy B. DelBaggio, 88, Altoona, died unexpectedly Monday at her residence.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Michael and Ottilie (Urban) Kreutner. She married Edwin “Ed” DelBaggio in December 1988, and he preceded her in death Feb. 15, 2013.

Surviving is a daughter, Georgia Glashauser of Westminster, Md.

Hedy was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired in 1988 from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, Bureau of Labor Standards, after 18 years of service. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist and St. Rose of Lima Catholic churches.

She was an accomplished accordion and keyboard player and performed at more than 100 venues and occasions across central Pennsylvania. She was a founding member of the dance band Four He’s and a She. She transcribed sheet music as well as used her expert seamstress skills to sew jackets, etc., for the band.

Hedy was a volunteer at Altoona Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation and Junior Auxiliary, where she originated puppet creations. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross and was a key organizer for the Blair County Golden Games. She was the assistant secretary of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Chapter 13, and a member and previous vice president of the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees.

She enjoyed golfing with friends at Sinking Valley and Sylvan Hills country clubs.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A memorial service will follow at noon in Stevens Memorial Chapel by Deacon Gene Neral.
