Betty Ann Skura

Betty Ann Skura, 85, Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Aug. 30, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Nassau, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Cresson, daughter of the late John and Maude (Parrish) Cassidy.

Surviving are her husband, Leo; a son, Gary and wife, Linda; two granddaughters: Kelly and Megan; and a great-granddaughter, Brynn.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Jack and Nelson; and two sisters: Geraldine and Ella Mae Lundberg.

Betty Ann graduated from Cresson High School in 1947. She left home briefly to work for the FBI in Washington, D.C., but returned shortly after to marry Leo Skura, her loving husband, with whom she would spend the next 62 years. Over the course of her life in Cresson, Betty Ann was employed by Stagers Garage as a bookkeeper and by the U.S. Postal Service, starting as a postal carrier (the first female in Cambria County) and eventually serving as assistant postmaster.

Betty Ann will be remembered as a remarkable athlete. She played both basketball and softball in high school and for the FBI. She also received many bowling awards at the state and national level. Golf, however, became her true passion. She won the title of Ladies Club Champion at the Summit Country Club on several occasions.

A memorial Mass and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Cresson. After the Mass, there will be a celebration of life brunch and plaque dedication at the Summit Country Club in Cresson. Please contact a family member if you wish to attend the brunch.
