Audrey Irene Findley
Audrey Irene Findley, 83, Altoona, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2013, at Elmcroft of Altoona.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harold and Ruth (Longenecker) Irvin. She married Robert E. Findley on June 29, 1957, at Third Presbyterian Church, Altoona.
Surviving are her husband, Robert; a son, Harold E. Findley and wife, Julie, of Altoona; a daughter, Elizabeth I. Siglow of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Jason Hendricks, Layla Hendricks, Megan Prisk, Rachel Dean, Elizabeth Franks, Michael Findley and Ben Siglow; and two great-grandchildren: Ethan Franks and Killian Hendricks.
Mrs. Findley was a member of the former Third Presbyterian Church, Altoona, where she had been a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years and had officiated at numerous church functions over the years. She was instrumental in the “Thursday’s Children” after-school activities program sponsored by the church and was also instrumental in her church’s activities at Harvestfest at DelGrosso’s Park and the Keystone Country Festival at Lakemont Park.
Audrey was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1950 graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing.
She was formerly employed as a registered nurse and had been employed by Dr. Claude Snyder for 10 years, retiring in 1960.
She was active on her high school class reunion committee for more than 40 years and served as a den mother for Cub Scouts in Troop 15 at Bethany Lutheran for many years.
Audrey spent about ten of her formative years living in Ennisville (Huntingdon County) around the time of the Great Depression in a home with no electricity. She attended the same one-room schoolhouse her parents did when they were young.
Friends will be received from 1 until the 3 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc. Pastor Richard L. Ginter will officiate.
