M. Lucille ‘Lucy’ Honsaker

M. Lucille “Lucy” Honsaker, 93, Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Friday afternoon at Homewood at Martinsburg surrounded by her children after a brief illness.

She was born in Martinsburg, daughter of the late George B. and Josephine (Hershberger) Wineland. She married Raymond H. Honsaker on Oct. 18, 1947, in Martinsburg, and he passed away April 12, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters: Gail E. Garrison and husband, Neal, of Martinsburg and Gwen H. Paden of Duncansville; a son, Garth W. and wife, Kathy, of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren: Brooke Garrison and wife, Sue, and Jill Dean and husband, Jerry; four great-grandchildren: Lindsey Garrison, Broxon Dean, Colton Dean and Bryce Dean; a brother, George H. and wife, Joan, of rural Roaring Spring; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: her twin, Lois Brown, and Alice Evelyn Meadows; and a son-in-law, Joseph M. Paden.

Lucy was a graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg, and the Altoona School of Commerce. She retired from Barkman Oil Co., Woodbury, after many years of service and also assisted her husband in the daily operations of his meat processing business. She was a lifelong member of Memorial Church of the Brethren, Martinsburg, where she attended the Cheerful Daughters Sunday school class, served as a former deaconess, sang in the adult choir and, along with her husband, formerly served as a youth leader.

Lucy was a former member of Iron Masters Country Club, rural Roaring Spring. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, cooking, baking, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and being a caregiver to many.

Friends will be received from 3:30 until the 5 p.m. funeral service Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Memorial Church of the Brethren, Pastor Joel F. Nogle officiating. Private inurnment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Memorial Church of the Brethren.
