Lawrence F. ‘Buzz’ Franks

Lawrence F. “Buzz” Franks, 79, Blandburg, died Wednesday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Blandburg, son of the late Bruno L. and Lois F. (Miller) Franks. He married Grace L. Keith on May 20, 1960, in Winchester, Va., and she died July 2, 1966.

Surviving are five children: Randy L., Deb, Brenda (Bob) Zeak and Dave L. (Kelly), all of Blandburg, and Dale of Altoona; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lorraine Forbes of Glasgow and Joan Ochranek of Altoona; and his dog, Gibbs.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas and Lee; and a sister, Maxine Burns.

Buzz was a 1952 graduate of Reade Township High School and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He had been employed as a shear operator for Stanley Electric, Altoona. He was a former member of the former St. Richard’s Catholic Church, Blandburg, and Bellwood VFW, American Legion and Eagles.

Buzz enjoyed hunting, four-wheeling, playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. Military services will be accorded by Coalport VFW.
