Henry E. ‘Hank’ Colwell

Henry E. “Hank” Colwell, 89, Graystone Manor at Bellmeade, Altoona, died Monday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Blandburg, son of the late James A. and Ruth E. (Garman) Colwell. He married Beverly J. Briggs on April 8, 1955, in Hollentown.

Surviving are his wife; two children: Joanne M. White of Midlothian, Va., and Duane E. (Tammy) of Stanardsville, Va.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph of Sellersville.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: George, Alex and Samuel; and a sister, Irene Patton.

Hank was a 1942 graduate of Reade Township High School and a 1950 graduate of Penn State University. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a POW in Germany. He retired in 1991 as a forester for Appalachian Power Co., Roanoke, Va., and he attended Hollentown Assembly of God.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Hollentown Assembly of God, Pastor Joe Hollen officiating. Interment will be in Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
