Emile G. Billy

Emile G. Billy Sr., 83, Gallitzin, died Friday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Cresson Shaft, son of the late Michael & Mary (Nesbella) Billy.

Surviving are seven children: Kim (Tim) Lidwell of Ashville, Mary (Tom) Leyo of Gallitzin, Carol (Brian) Weakland of Ashville, Linda (Johnny) Alley of Bellwood, Emily of Gallitzin, Emile Jr. (Jackie Lidwell) of Ashville and Michael (Alycia Raymond) of New Holland; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Billy of Cresson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella (Pierwola), on Sept. 19, 1999; four brothers: Michael, Joseph, John and George; and three sisters: Julie Panek, Mary Pollack and Annie Kreutzenberger.

Emile was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was a member of Gallitzin American Legion, NRA and a life member of Gallitzin Sportsmen’s Club.

Emile was a member of St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Portage.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where Panachida will be sung at 7 p.m. Monday. A brief service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the funeral home, and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Portage, the Rev. James A. Spontak, celebrant. The committal will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.

The family suggests donations be made in Emile’s memory to St. Peter and Paul Byzantine Church, 143 Church Road, Portage, PA 15946, Home Nursing Hospice, 118 Ebony Road, Ebensburg, PA 15931 or Gallitzin Area Ambulance, 110 Chestnut St., Gallitzin, PA 16641. Military rites are by Gallitzin American Legion and other local military organizations.
