Edward L. ‘Fred’ Halleran

Edward L. “Fred” Halleran, 44, Altoona, passed away Tuesday as the result of a motorcycle accident.

He was born in Queens, N.Y., son of Edward W. and Lorraine (Pollack) Halleran.

Surviving are his parents; his wife, Karen S. (Cosgrave); a daughter, Christina Siskron of Altoona; three sons: Charles (Jennifer) Best in Florida, Kennith (Christina) Best in Georgia and Mark (Jen) Siskron of Altoona; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild on the way; a brother, James; a stepbrother, Vincent; a stepsister, Grace; his grandfather, Papa L. Bukovsky; and his grandmother, Hazel.

Fred was a graduate of Colonial High School and an auto diesel mechanic school in Nashville, Tenn. He served in the U.S Army as a sergeant during the Persian Gulf War and Operation Enduring Freedom and was awarded three Bronze Stars. He was employed by the Sheetz Distribution Center as a truck driver.

Fred attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He enjoyed learning to play golf with his children, hunting, hiking and riding his motorcycle. He was proud of being awarded his Eagle Scout rank and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 13, 2013, at Santella Funeral Home, where the Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a military honor service. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Full military honors will immediately follow.
