Thomas Raymond Bradley
Thomas Raymond Bradley, 88, of Vampire Road, Gallitzin, died Wednesday at home.
He was born in Loretto, son of the late Thomas A. and Bertha M. (Lynch) Bradley.
Surviving are five children: Christina Kurtz (Robert), Andrea Bradley and Eric (Melissa Seevers), all of Gallitzin RD, Jeffrey (Christina Seevers) of Loretto and Ramona Hanlon (Pete) of Ebensburg; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank of Cresson; three sisters-in-law: Sylvia Bradley and Kay Bradley, both of Pittsburgh, and Jean (Carney) of Lilly; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa R. (Burick), on Sept. 12, 2011; six brothers: Clair, Harold, Leo, Paul, Vernon and Robert; and three sisters: Roseline Sutton, Olevia Gieb and Geraldine Verbosky.
Ray served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He worked for PennDOT, Ebensburg, and retired in 1986. He served as a Gallitzin Township supervisor for 18 years and also served on the school board for Penn Cambria School District.
Ray was an active member of the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto. He was a lifetime member of the Loretto American Legion, where he was a past post commander, and Sankertown VFW, where he served as a chaplain and trustee. He was also a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 919, Loretto.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil service will be held this afternoon. The Knights of Columbus will stand guard from 6 to 8 p.m. today, followed by a memorial service.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at the Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto, Monsignor Timothy Swope as celebrant. Committal will be in the church cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Loretto American Legion, Sankertown VFW and other local military organizations.
