Joseph E. Hetrick

Joseph E. Hetrick, 77, East Freedom, died Wednesday evening at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness.

He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Joseph H. and Burnette (Gonsman) Hetrick. He married Betty J. Houk on Dec. 19.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Edward J. and fiancee, Belinda Clifford, of East Freedom; a daughter, Christine L. Weitzel and husband, Joseph, of McKee; six grandchildren: Edward J. Hetrick Jr., Bradley Hetrick, Jeremy Weitzel, Rebecca Weitzel, Travis Hetrick and Jordan Lafferty; three great-granddaughters; and a sister, Francis Rhodes of Roaring Spring.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Edward Rhodes.

Joseph was a 1954 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and also graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute, where he studied tool and die. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He owned and operated Blair Tool and Plastic Co. Inc. in East Freedom.

Joseph was a member of Christ Church, Roaring Spring, Claysburg American Legion and Railroaders Camping Club. He was a past president of the Chimrocks Square and Round Dancing Club and past president of the Newry Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking, square dancing, camping, dogs and spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, by the Rev. Dr. Joel Kletzing. Military honors will be accorded by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.

Contributions in Joseph’s memory may be given to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
