Thomas E. Conrad

Thomas E. Conrad, 84, Bellwood, died Tuesday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, from complications after open heart surgery.

He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Robert E. and Maynie Jane (Geist) Conrad. He married Shirley M. Crider on Jan. 31, 1953, at Juniata Park Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years; a daughter, Gail (Gerry) Michaud of Bellwood; two granddaughters: Cheryl (Kevin) Davis and Danielle Michaud; and a sister, Kathleen Starner of Bellemead.

He was preceded in death by six brothers: Leon, Robert, Russell, Kenneth, Charles and W. Merrill; and four sisters: Jean Rodland, Jane McCracken, Lois Taylor and Bernice McCoy.

Tom was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany during the Korean conflict. He retired as a machinist from Chicago Rivet, Tyrone, and was a member of Riggles Gap Bible Church. He enjoyed woodworking, playing guitar, gardening, fishing and hunting and especially loved sports.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, July 22, 2013, at Riggles Gap Bible Church, Pastor William Ice officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

The family suggests that contributions in Tom’s memory be made to Allegheny General Hospital, Office of Development, 320 E. North Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212, earmarked for the Gerald McGinnis Cardiovascular Institute.
