Dale T. Merritts
Dale T. Merritts, 65, Altoona, died Friday evening at his home.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Kenneth C. and Ida Mae (Craven) Merritts. He married Sherry L. Himes on June 2, 1984, at Fourth Lutheran Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: Matthew R. (Melissa) Moore in Texas and Dale T. Jr. (Stevie Dean) of Tyrone; three daughters: Shelly R. (Heather Fraley) Merritts of Altoona, Christina J. (Jason) Beltz of Pine Grove and Ashley M. (Michael) Pacifico of Altoona; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers: Kenneth C. Jr. in Colorado and Samuel R. of Bellwood; and a sister, Barbara J. Hummel, of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: his twin, Dean T., and Richard M.; and his God son, Eric Henderson.
Dale retired as machine operator at Veeder Root Corp. Altoona after 45 years of service. He served in the PA Army National Guard for six years.
Dale was a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aide Society, Altoona.
He enjoyed trout fishing, especially lake trout fishing with his nephew, Ross. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time at the camps in Potter County and Tipton.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the noon memorial service Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, Pastor Stewart W. McClelland officiating.
The family suggests that contributions in Dale’s memory be made to “Youth Day Fishing” c/o Bellwood Sportsmen’s Club.
