Stewart C. ‘Stew’ Crider
Stewart C. “Stew” Crider, 99, Riggles Gap, died Wednesday evening at Altoona Regional.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Phillip C. and Rose Etna (Mason) Crider. He married Ellina G. “Bunch” Shutt on Aug. 1, 1934, in Juniata, and she died Sept. 25, 2012.
Surviving are two sons: Barry L. of Angier, N.C., and Ronald S. (Judy) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters: Shirley M. (Tom) Conrad of Bellwood and Joyce A. Maynard of Batavia, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hazel Brean of Hartford, Conn.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers: Roy, Robert, Melvin, Bernard, Jim, Wilbur and David; and two sisters: Helen and Gertrude.
Stew retired in 1985 as a maintenance technician with Bellwood-Antis School District. He was a member of Riggles Gap Bible Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching golf on television, traveling across the country, playing the harmonica and making and working with crafts.
Stew especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, June 3, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, Pastor William Ice officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
