Sarah Jane Pike
Sarah Jane Pike, 85, Altoona, died Wednesday at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Silas Nathan and Catherine Cecilia (Crum) Ringler. She was twice married, first to Robert L. McCurdy Jr., who preceded her in death Dec. 5, 2001. She then married Chester C. Pike Jr., who preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1992.
Surviving are four children: Leslie McCurdy, Diana Prosser (David) and Robert L. McCurdy III (Rosemary), all of Altoona, and David K. McCurdy (Jacqueline) of Honolulu, Hawaii; three stepchildren: Chester C. Pike III, Elaine Grove and Tom Pike; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters: Catherine Stevens in Florida, Joanne Dippolito of Johnstown and Sharyn Kemberling of Altoona; and two brothers: John Ringler (Carol) of Ephrata and Phillip Ringler of Duncansville.
She was preceded in death by three sisters: Charlotte Ringler, June Ringler and Donna LaCroce; and two brothers: Silas Ringler and David Ringler.
Sarah owned Sara’s Grocery in Fairview, Altoona, from 1983-96 and retired in 1996. She was previously a volunteer at the Altoona Hospital Gift Shop and Humane Society Thrift Shop. She attended Grace Brethren Church in Juniata.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, June 15, 2013, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pastor Rod Lingenfelter officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602, or Grace Brethren Church, North 15th Avenue and Broadway (Juniata), Altoona, PA 16601.
