Robert John ‘Bob’ Miller

Robert John “Bob” Miller, 90, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Duncansville, died Sunday afternoon at his residence.

He was born in Lewistown, son of Elias John and Cora (Clapper) Miller. He married Marjorie Louise McNoldy on Dec. 24, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Altoona, and she died Feb. 28, 2011, after having shared 64 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons: William and wife, Charlotte, of Lumberton, N.C., and Kirk and wife, Nicole, of Grantsville, Md.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Darwin Daniel of Hollidaysburg.

Bob was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in WWII as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from October 1943 to March 1945 in the southwest Pacific Theater. He had formerly worked at Crane Co. in Duncansville from 1951-74 and retired from Conrail as a master machinist.

Bob was a member for more than 50 years of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Duncansville, and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Altoona. He was also a former member of the Duncansville Volunteer Fire Department. He loved traveling, hunting, bird-watching, playing pinochle, making bird houses and helping others.

A celebration of life service will be held in conjunction with the 10:30 a.m. regular liturgy Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Duncansville, by the Revs. Jaime G. Olson and Edward C. Harshbarger.

Memorials may be given to Evangelical Lutheran Church.
