Richard C. Miller

Richard C. “Dick” Miller, 93, Altoona, died early Friday morning, May 31, 2013, at Altoona Regional.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late James Curtis and Mary Ann (Miller) Miller. He married Dorothy H. Phillips on May 8, 1942, in Urbana, Ill. She preceded him in death on May 11, 2013.

Surviving are four children: Richard C. Miller and his wife, Linda, Barbara Suzanne “Suzie” Nagl and her husband, Norman, Patti Fabinyi and James Miller and his wife, Tammy, all of Altoona; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret, and three brothers: Lester, George and Warren.

Dick was a 1937 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran of WWII. He formerly had been employed as a teacher and principal for the Altoona Area School District and also was a supervisor of special education for Appalachian Intermediate Unit 8.

Dick was a member of Third Presbyterian Church, Altoona, where he was an elder and a member of the 49ers Sunday school class. He enjoyed spending time with his family, boating and bowling.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. with Pastor Richard L. Ginter officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
