Mary Jane ‘Janie’ Wilson

Mary Jane “Janie” Wilson, 66, Altoona, died Thursday morning at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harold T. and Mary Eliza (Edwards) Wilson.

Surviving are three brothers: Thomas E. Wilson and wife, Marilyn, in South Africa, Samuel C. Wilson and wife, Nancy, of Altoona and Edward M. Wilson and wife, Claudia, of Tyrone; two sisters: Margaret C. “Margie” Shoop and husband, David, of Hollidaysburg and Diane L. “Dee” O’Keefe and husband, John, of Altoona; 13 nieces and nephews; and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mary was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School and after high school, she went into training as a nurse’s aide. She retired from Altoona Hospital after 41 years of service, having worked in central supply, sterile processing, the recovery room and the mail room at various times. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Altoona.

Mary enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, reading and traveling.

Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tyler Pepper officiating. Interment will be made in Carson Valley Cemetery.
