John Michael Carter

John Michael Carter, 46, Erie, formerly of Altoona, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 16, 2013, at UPMC Hamot in Erie of a massive stroke.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Roy F. Carter and Shirley (Graffius) Carter Morris.

Surviving are his fiancee, MeLisa Markham and her children, Elizabeth and triplets Richard, Robert and Brian; his mother, Shirley Morris; stepfather, Tom Morris; four siblings: Ken (Theresa) of Altoona, Dennis (Rebecca) of Fairfield, Tina Miller (Steve) in Rwanda and Brian (Jeannie Frame) of Altoona. John is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; “dozens of cousins,” special friend, Michelle Mullens and her children, Brittany and Jacobb Waddle of Columbus, Ohio; and a community of friends in Erie and Altoona.

John was a graduate of Altoona Area High School and was recently attending Erie Business Center where he had been on the dean’s list for the past two semesters.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran with 10 years of service as an electronics technician. John was a direct descendant of U.S. Civil War veterans and had family members who fought in World War I and World War II.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 200 Third Ave., Altoona. An additional memorial service will be held at a later date in Erie.
