Walter T. ‘Breezy’ Swemba

Walter T. “Breezy” Swemba, 83, Cresson, died Friday in Las Vegas, Nev.

He was born in Lilly, son of the late Thomas and Pauline (Karas) Swemba. He married Kathryn Prebish on June 6, 1953.

Surviving are his wife; three children: Robert (Jamie) of Powhatan, Va., Linda of Las Vegas, Nev., and Donald (Mary) of Fisherville, Va.; four grandchildren: Chris, Aaron, Trinity and Angela Swemba; and two sisters: Stella Jerosky of Chicago, Ill., and Cecelia Mazor of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Stanley; and three sisters: Mary and Ann Swemba and Julia Mazur.

Walter was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WWII. He retired as a mining surveyor with Bethlehem Mines, Ebensburg. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson American Legion and Sankertown VFW.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at St. Francis Xavier Church by the Rev. Leo F. Arnone. Committal will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by Cresson American Legion, Sankertown VFW and other local veteran organizations.
