James Robert ‘Bob’ Hollenbach

James Robert “Bob” Hollenbach, 67, Altoona, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon as the result of a heart attack.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late James W. and Dorothy Louise (Elder) Hollenbach. He married Sharon L. “Sherry” Shuman in 1973 in Altoona.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Bryan and wife, Desiree, of Altoona and their son, Bryce; a daughter, Megan of Shippensburg; a brother, Donald and wife, Carol, of Tyrone; a sister, Susan Faretta and husband, Daniel, of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Susan Yahner and husband, Joseph, of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Constance Louise Ammerman, in 1962; and his beloved dog, Oreo.

Bob was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a Pennsylvania Army National Guard veteran, serving with the 28th Infantry Division (“Keystone Division”) and attaining the rank of sergeant first class. He was a member of the 28th Infantry Division Band, and he retired from the National Guard after 40 years of service. He and Sherry had been the owners/operators of New Look Uniform Shop Inc., Altoona, since 1986.

Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata. He was also a member of Hiram Lodge 616, F&AM; Jaffa Shrine, where he was a member and past president of the Jaffa Shrine Concert Band; Jaffa Shrine Legion of Honor; Jaffa Golf Committee; Royal Order of Jesters, Altoona Court 70; and Order of Quetzalcoatl, Colotic Miztli 91. He was also a Jaffa Shrine Samsar Merit Award recipient.

He was a life member of the Buccinese Society and a member of the Heidelberg Country Club, Cesare Battisti Club, Swiss Rifle Club and Unter Uns. He was the St. Francis College Small Business Development Center Small Business Person of the Year in 1998 and the Blair County Small Business Person of the Year in 2003. Bob and Sherry received the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Award of Distinction Excellence in Small Business in October 2012. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce President’s Forum.

Bob enjoyed golfing, his pond and koi fish, and riding his Kubota tractor.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
