Charles R. ‘Skip’ Bowers

Charles R. “Skip” Bowers, 80, Roaring Spring, died Saturday morning at his residence, following a brief illness.

He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Thomas and Mary (Dick) Bowers. He married Barbara M. Sweeney on June 24, 1956. She died on April 6, 2008.

He is survived by four children: David R. Bowers and wife, LuAnn, of Roaring Spring, Randy L. Bowers and companion, Barrina Hall, of Williamsburg, Laurie Bowers of Roaring Spring and Chris A. Bowers and wife, Cheryl, of Roaring Spring; eight grandchildren: Kristi Lape, Chad Bowers, Bradley Bowers, Scott Bowers, Katie Bowers, Jasmine Lee, Logan Bowers and Brittaney Bowers; seven great-grandchildren: Kaylee Bowers, Aaron Bowers, Zachary Bowers, Bobby Lape IV, Natalie Lape, Damien Bowers and Sole Rhoat; and a brother, John Bowers of Roaring Spring.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angie Bowers, and two brothers: Thomas and Paul.

Skip was a member of Bare Memorial Church of God, Roaring Spring.

He was a graduate of Roaring Spring High School and retired from Roaring Spring Blank Book Co. in 1998, after 43 years of service.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

Skip enjoyed umpiring softball, sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, and roller skating.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bare Memorial Church of God by Pastor Mark Halliday. Interment will be made in Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.

Contributions in Skip’s memory may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Roaring Spring Community Library.
