Rita B. Hurt

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Rita B. Hurt (nee Hite), 84, of Lighthouse Point, Fla., on March 30, 2013, after a lengthy illness.

Rita moved to Pompano in 1950, where she met and married Paul Hurt, Pompano Beach’s first chief lifeguard. He preceded her in death. She is survived by a brother, Joseph Hite of Altoona; four sons and one daughter: Paul A. Hurt (wife, Kathy) of Sebastian, Fla., Jan Thomas (husband, Jim) of Coral Springs, Fla., Jeff Hurt (wife, Janine) of Pompano, Fla., Les Hurt of Hollywood, Fla., and William Hurt of Pompano, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Rita and Paul were pioneers of the Collier Manor area and among the first parishioners of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Pompano Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
