Ned W. Shippey
Ned W. Shippey, 77, Martinsburg, was ushered into Glory on Friday morning at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg, after winning a valiant and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Manns Choice, Bedford County, son of the late Ralph S. and Mary E. (Adams) Shippey.
He married Jean Miller, his best friend and the love of his life.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, who was by his side every step of this final journey; two daughters: Suzanne Shippey McNally and husband, Steve, of Martinsburg, and Jill Shippey Ringer and husband, Ray, of Chesapeake, Va.; his favorite granddaughter, Laura McNally; his favorite grandson, Weston Ringer; three siblings: Beverly Stiffler, Barbara Deeter and Alton Shippey, all of Manns Choice; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mr. Shippey was a 1953 graduate of Chestnut Ridge High School, a 1961 graduate of Shippensburg State College with a bachelor’s degree in education and a graduate of Indiana State College, Indiana, Pa., with a master’s degree in education.
Ned served in the U. S. Army from 1955-57, where he was a member of the National Honor Guard. Among his duties was guarding “The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier” at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington,
D.C. He served the Spring Cove School District as a teacher, and as a guidance counselor at Roaring Spring Junior High School and later at Spring Cove Junior High School, with 28 total years of service, investing himself in thousands of students during his lifetime.
Ned currently attended Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church with his church family. He was an ardent golfer and golf coach and, along with his wife, was a longtime, active member of Iron Masters Country Club, rural Roaring Spring.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where a Roaring Spring Lions Club memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Monday evening. A funeral service with military flag honors accorded by Blair County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the church. Pastor Brian L. McCall and Pastor Roger Hammond will be officiating. Private interment will follow at Dry Ridge Church Cemetery, Manns Choice.

Ned’s family prefers memorial contributions be given to the memorial or missions funds of Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church or Morrisons Cove Memorial Park.
