Mary J. Ross

Mary J. Ross, 96, Vail, died Thursday in Austin, Texas, with her family and granddaughter, Gina Yohn, at her side.

She was born in Tyrone Forge, daughter of Pietro and Edria (Bonerico) Marketto. She married David F. Ross on Aug. 17, 1940, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, and he died Dec. 18, 2002.

Surviving are two daughters: Jeanette Friedman and husband, Jerry, of Austin, Texas, and Judith Ann Vyhonsky and husband, Bill, of Fallston, Md.; a son, David F. Jr. of Northwood; 12 grandchildren: Gina Yohn, Mark Wilt, Edria Wilt, Stephanie Forosisky, Billy Vyhonsky, David Vyhonsky, Emily Book, Penny Miller, Tracy Swartzendruber, David Ross III, Nichole Heiss and Missy Bowman; 26 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister and a grandson, Christopher Wilt.

Mary retired in 1976 from Veeder-Root Co. as an assembler after 20 years of service. She had previously been employed at Big Yank, Tyrone, as a sewing machine operator for 10 years. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone.

Mary had lived in Austin, Texas, for the past four years with her daughter, Jeanette, and son-in-law, Jerry Friedman. She was so loved by all who knew her and became a fixture at her daughter’s restaurant in Texas, where she rolled silverware and talked to customers who dearly loved her.

Mary had a love that was precious and unconditional and loved her children with all her heart and soul. She will always be known for her grace, compassion, generosity and humor.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at St. Matthew Church, Tyrone, Father Jozef Kovacik as celebrant. Committal will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
