Lester E. ‘Pinky’ Snyder
April 19, 1937 – April 23, 2013
Lester E. “Pinky” Snyder, 76, Bellwood, died early Tuesday morning at his home.
He was born in Philipsburg, son of the late Lester E. Snyder and Thelma (Brown) Cooper. He married Sandra K. Snyder on March 16, 1961, in Tyrone.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Christopher D. of Altoona; a daughter, Penny R. Prough and companion, Chris Bowman, of Bellwood; and two grandchildren: Kelsey N. Prough and Aaron M. Bowman.
He was the last of his immediate family and was preceded in death by two half brothers: James Wyland and William Cooper; and a sister, Mary Ann (Snyder) Price.
Lester was a 1958 graduate of Tyrone High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and served 30 years in the Army National Guard. He retired from the Department of Military Affairs at the Frankstown Armory after 30 years of service.
Lester was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona. He was also a member of the Altoona Rifle and Pistol Club and a 29-year member of Logan Valley Broncs Saddle Club, Bellwood, where he served several years as president and on the board of directors. His passion for horses spanned more than 50 years, and he enjoyed raising, riding and showing quarter and gaited horses. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and going camping, but he especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and their horses.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, April 26, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, the Rev. David Hersh officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
