Joseph L. Luciano
July 3, 1933 – April 5, 2013
Joseph L. Luciano, 79, Altoona, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning at Altoona Regional surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Guy and Rose (Augustino) Luciano. He married Janet A. Wertz on June 7, 1958, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; three sons: Joseph (Cheryl) and Tom (Mindy), both of Altoona, and Rob (Renee) of Hollidaysburg; six grandchildren: Emily, Tyler, Lexi, Robby, Jordan and Jaylyn; two sisters: Jane Piccirilli and Rita, both of Altoona; six brothers: Mike, Anthony (Carol) and Bob (Patty), all of Altoona, Guy (Joan) and Frank (Yvonne), both of Hollidaysburg, and Nick (Joline) of Newry; and a sister-in-law, Carmen (Tom) in New York.
Joe was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He retired in 1990 as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years of service. Prior to the post office, he had been employed by Butterick Co., and after his retirement, he worked part time for Altoona Beverage and Luciano Auto Body.
Joe was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and was a member of Monday Night Pioneer Bowling League for more than 40 years, Juniata VFW, Bavarian Aid Society, Heidelberg Country Club and Cesare Battisti.
He enjoyed playing softball, his family poker night and hunting with his brothers, sons and grandsons, and he took pride in his vegetable garden and his hot fried peppers. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church by Father D. Timothy Grimme. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
