Joseph J. Stangl
Joseph J. Stangl, 69, Altoona died unexpectedly at his residence. Joe was born in Altoona, son of Joseph J. and Bonnabell (Simington) Stangl. He married Bonnie L. Etters on Sept. 24, 1964, at St. Mary’s Church.
Joe is survived his wife; his mother; two sons: Jeffrey D. (Lori) of Altoona and Jay (Lourdes) of Germany; a daughter, Michelle Fisher (Steve) of Altoona; brother, Bob of Altoona; eight grandchildren: Jacquilyn Perretta (Brendon), Alyssa, Kaylee, Rhiannon, Brandon, Marina, Tristan and Chloe; and many close friends, including Ken Hatch and Jim Caminiti.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Joe was a 1961 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. He attended Penn State Altoona and was a graduate of Altoona School of Commerce. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Joe retired as a fruit and vegetable inspector for the Pa. Department of Agriculture. He enjoyed fly fishing and was a private pilot. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially taking them fishing. He remained very close to his lifelong friends on Dutch Hill.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church by Father Anthony Petracca. Committal will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Altoona.
