John O’Donnell, 65, Coalport RD, lost his battle with cancer Monday at Altoona Regional.
He was born in Philipsburg, son of the late John P. and Susan C. (Gathagan) O’Donnell. He married Donna Skebeck on Oct. 28, 1972, in Coalport.
Surviving are his wife; two children: Dr. Linsey D. O’Donnell and husband, Dr. Eric M. Russell, of Chadds Ford and John P. and significant other, Haley Noel, of Ithaca, N.Y.; a brother, Thomas of Lindenwold, N.J.; a sister, Valah McIntyre (John) of Woodstock, Ga.; his brother and best friend, David (Cindy Braniff) of Coalport RD; his mother-in-law, Dolly Skebeck of Coalport; an aunt; an uncle; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends: Bill and Sheilah Kawa and Bill and Marge Reilly.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Joan; an infant brother, Edward; and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Kruis) O’Donnell.
John was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era War. He worked as a Prudential Insurance agent, a manager for AmeriServ Bank, Coalport, and for the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale. He was a former member of numerous civic organizations.
John will be remembered as a man of great compassion, a loyal friend, a loving husband and a wonderful father whose priority was his family. He was especially proud of his children.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2013, and 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral service Friday, April 26, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport, the Rev. Carol Gathagan officiating, with military rites accorded by Coalport VFW. Committal will be in Utahville Cemetery.
