Dixie L. Arnold
Dixie L. Arnold, 80, Hollidaysburg, went to be with the Lord Sunday.
She was born in Cumberland, Md., daughter of the late Albert J. and Mary Virginia (Bobo) Eckard. She was married to the late Emil Arnold on Nov. 25, 1950.
Surviving are three children: Chester and wife, Karen, of Humble, Texas, Mary Elizabeth (Shannon) Croft and husband, Dan, of Hollidaysburg and Reta (Manuel) Heob and husband, Keith, of Palm Bay, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four brothers: Robert Eckard and wife, Ruth, of Frostburg, Md., Albert Eckard of Hyndman, Bruce Eckard and wife, Mary Ann, of Cumberland, Md., and James Eckard and wife, Marjorie, of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Amelia League; a brother, Jehu Eckard; and a son-in-law, Jerry Shannon.
Dixie was a 1950 graduate of Bedford High School. She retired as a bakery/deli manager from Market Basket, Winn-Dixie and Walmart. She and her husband, Emil, moved to Sulphur, La., where she sang with the “Agin’ Cajuns” and with the First Baptist Church choir. They returned to Hollidaysburg in 2006 and were members of Faith Baptist Church in Altoona.
Dixie enjoyed spending time with her family and her church family, playing dominos, watching birds and tending to her flowers.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, Pastor Stewart McClelland officiating. Interment will be at Burning Bush Cemetery in Bedford at the convenience of the family.
