Samuel A. ‘Sam’ Casale

Samuel A. “Sam” Casale, 84, Portage Township, died Saturday at Altoona Regional. He was born in Portage, son of Carmelo and Giuseppina “Josephine” (Moschella) Casale.

Surviving are eight children: Samuel and wife, Joan (Shrift), of Duncansville; Marcia Crossman and husband, David, of York; Lauren Graham and husband, Larry, of Cresson, Jeffrey and wife, Mary Ann (Muffie), of Mechanicsburg, Anita French and husband, Gregory, and Lydia Madsen and husband, Gary, all of Timonium, Md., Alison Filak and husband, Richard, and Amy Swires and husband, Ted, all of Cresson; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers: Dr. Lawrence and wife, Nellie, of Westmont, John “Jake” and Paul, both of Cresson, and James of Portage Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death his wife, Shirley (Gregory); and a sister- in-law, Emma (Pingtella).

Sam was a former carpenter, stone mason and co-owner of Casale Brothers Garage in Cresson for 43 years. An avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, he loved gardening on his farm, “Paradise,” and his chocolate labrador, Vinnie.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, Portage, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013. Committal will be at St. Bartholomew Cemetery
