Joseph J. ‘Joe’ Milazzo

Joseph J. “Joe” Milazzo, 95, formerly of Johnstown, died Friday in Hollidaysburg.

He was born in Colver, son of Benedict and Charlene (Cravotta) Milazzo. He married Rose E. Bruno.

Surviving are three children: Joseph J. and wife, Joanne (DiGulio), of Springfield, Va., Louis B. and wife, Carol (Milkovich), of Lancaster, Ohio, and Charlene M. Romeo and husband, John R., of Hollidaysb urg; seven grandchildren: Lisa Marie Gurowitz and husband, Andrew, Joseph Todd Milazzo and wife, Sandy, Matthew Dade and wife, Darcie, Kristina Siegler and husband, Jonathan, Dana Helene, Selena Rose and John Robert Romeo; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Charles in New Jersey and Benedict of Sidman.

He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers: Angelo, Leonard and Louis; and two sisters: Virginia and Louise.

Joseph was a 1935 graduate of Dale High School and was class valedictorian. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a retired captain of the Johnstown Fire Department, where he served for 28 years. He was formerly employed at Bethlehem Steel Corp. He was a barber at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital for 40 years and a member of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Johnstown.

Joseph played the accordion, mandolin and harmonica. He was friendly and well-liked by all and will be sadly missed but never forgotten by his family who cherished him and felt so blessed to have had him in their lives.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at Frank Duca Funeral Home Inc., Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd., Johnstown. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, the Rev. Barry J. Baroni officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.
