Harold K. Yingling
Harold K. Yingling, 86, Belle Mead, N.J., died Monday.
He was born in Altoona, son of Herbert A. and Elizabeth (Verne) Yingling.
Harold graduated from Altoona High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he became a frogman and part of the Navy’s Underwater Demolition Team, later known as U.S. Navy SEALs. He participated in the WWII invasions of Okinawa and Ie Shima. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946, he attended Penn State University, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in chemical engineering. During his career, he held engineering and management positions with RCA, Machlett Laboratories (Raytheon), EMR (Schlumberger) and Hamamatsu Corp.
In 1949, Harold married his classmate, Trudy McGinley, also from Altoona, with a wonderful marriage lasting 64 years. Together they had five children: Michael, Kerry, Kocher, Cristianne and Mara; four grandchildren: Tyson, Rebecca, Karl (deceased) and Anthony; and three great-grandchildren: Hailey, Chase and Giuliana.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at Hillsborough Funeral Home, 796 US Highway 206, Hillsborough, N.J., with full military honors at 8 p.m. Cremation will be private.
