Basil D. Damico

Basil D. Damico, 84, Tyrone, died Wednesday at Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone.

He was born in Tyrone, son of Santo and Philamena (Cavouti) Damico. He married Barbara Ellen Williams on Feb. 12, 1955, in Winchester, Va.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Lee Ann Updike and husband, Joe, of Altoona and Sandy Ashcroft and husband, Mike, of Tyrone; four grandchildren: Becky Burns, Katie Wilson and Mike and Andy Ashcroft; three great-grandchildren: Parker, Sydney and Aiden; and two brothers: Joseph and George, both of Tyrone.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Antoinette Updike.

Basil was a 1947 graduate of Tyrone High School and had been a warrant officer for the Tyrone National Guard. He retired in 1992 from Westvaco, Tyrone, as a maintenance supervisor after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone American Legion, Tyrone Elks and the Bavarian Hall, Altoona.

Basil enjoyed spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at St. Matthew Church, Father Jozef Kovacik as celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
