Barry L. Hartman
Barry L. Hartman, 72, of Summit Street, Everett, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Bedford Memorial.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Hartman) Yeager. He married his wife of 48 years, Joyce (Smyers), in Warrenton, Va.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Shari Ritchey and husband, Jerry, of Roaring Spring and Melissa Smith of Everett; three grandchildren: Brendan Ritchey, Jarrett Ritchey and Austin Smith; a brother, Robert Yeager and wife, Marianne, of Hollidaysburg; and a special cousin, Donna Wolf of East Petersburg.
Barry was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School and attended the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, graduating in 1963. He was a Pennsylvania State Police trooper for 29 years until his retirement. After retiring for a week, he served as a Bedford County detective for 11 years until retiring again in 2003. He was currently working as the Bedford County Court bailiff part time.
Barry was a member of Everett Church of the Brethren and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 57. He enjoyed golfing, exercising, participating in the Young at Heart Games, watching NASCAR racing and attending Pittsburgh Panthers football games.
As a proud grandfather, he enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their sporting events just as he did with his daughters.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Everett Church of the Brethren, the Rev. Frank Ramirez officiating. Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery.
