Velma I. Koelle Leonard

Velma I. Koelle Leonard, 88, Lakemont, died Thursday at Altoona Regional.

She was born in Laurel, Neb., daughter of Frederick and Bertha (Marthwig) Rohde. She married Alvin R. “Dick” Koelle on Jan. 11, 1945, at the Fourth Street Church of God, Altoona, and he died Nov. 7, 1971, having shared 26 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons: Gregory S. at home and Thomas L. and wife, Sheri, of East Freedom; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Doris Christenson of Lincoln, Neb., and LaRoyce Kollbaum of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers: Pierce of Hartington, Neb., and John of Kearney, Neb.; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Koelle of Coalport.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Fredrick Koelle and Richard Larry Koelle; a brother; and three sisters.

Velma was a graduate of Ponca High School in Ponca, Neb. She retired as a cook/waitress at the lunch counter and deli at the S.S. Kresge Department Store, Altoona, after 28 years of service. She was a member of the former Faith United Methodist Church, Altoona.

At Velma’s request, there will be no public viewing or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at Blair Memorial Park.

Memorials may be given to Blair Senior Services or Home Nursing Agency.
