George ‘Jiggs’ Kostelnik
George “Jiggs” Kostelnik, 91, Colver, died Monday at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
He was born in Latrobe, son of the late Michael and Anna (Bojanoski) Kostelnik.
Surviving are three children: Timothy (Connie), Darlene and George (Tammy); four grandchildren: Brian, Matthew (Stephanie), Adrienne (Matthew) and Jeremy; a great-grandson, Gabe; a brother-in-law, Rodney Hughes and wife, Mary; and a special friend and caretaker, Betty Stocker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (Hughes); a brother, Michael; four sisters: Susan, Mary, Margaret and Mildred; a stepbrother, Andy; a grandson, Adam Kostelnik; and his wife’s parents, George and Kathryn Hughes.
George was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 32nd Infantry. He was a life member of VFW Post 4963, Ebensburg, and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local Union 860, Colver, and Cambria County Old-Timers Industrial Baseball Association. He was a big Green Bay Packers football fan.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, the Rev. James Farrer officiating. Committal will be at Holy Name Cemetery, Ebensburg.
