Edwin ‘Eddie’ DelBaggio
Edwin “Eddie” DelBaggio, 94, Altoona, died Friday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview, Altoona.
He was born in Tyrone, son of Felix and Duna (Rich) DelBaggio. He was twice married, first to Della Funk on May 1, 1940, in Tyrone. She died on March 2, 1987. He then married Hedwig “Hedy” Kreutner on Dec. 22, 1988, in Tipton.
Surviving are his wife; a stepdaughter, Georgia Glashauser of Westminster, Md.; three brothers: Rocco and Benedict of Tyrone and John of Altoona; and a sister, Mary Hoover of Punxsutawney.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
Mr. DelBaggio retired in 1978 from the Pennsylvania Railroad, Juniata shops, as a car repairman after 30 years of service.
He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone; Sons of Italy, Altoona; American Legion Post IAIA, Altoona; Caddies Breakfast Club; National Guard Breakfast Club; Railroad Breakfast Club; the Bavarian Aid Society and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Gregory Council. In addition, he had life memberships with the Tyrone Hookies, Tyrone VFW, Tyrone American Legion and the Tyrone Elks.
He was a charter member in 1963 of Sinking Valley Country Club and was the first pro golfer there for the first five years. He also was a pro golfer at the former Tyrone Country Club at the old Athletic Park for a year in 1939. He was a graduate of the Professional Golfers Association School, Florida, in 1967.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a private first class in Troop B, 8th Calvary Regiment.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at St. Matthew Church with the Rev. Jozef Kovacik, celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
