William B. Walker

William B. Walker, 69, Altoona, died Wednesday at his residence after an extended illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late James E. and Myrtle C. (Lansberry) Walker. He married Carlene M. Schlenker on April 8, 1981, in California.

Surviving are his wife; two children: Jefferey in New Mexico and Tracey Poole in California; a grandson; two sisters: Charlotte Brothers of Altoona and Shirley Mecke of Florence, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

William was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from General Mills Inc. in the maintenance department with 28 years of service. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 340 in Diamond City, Ark., and he enjoyed woodworking and animals.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church by Pastors Paula Schmitt and Kathy Colebank. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
