Thomas ‘Al’ Jasper

Thomas “Al” Jasper, 76, Gallitzin, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late Thomas A. and Lillian (Hudock) Jasper. He married Louise Hufford on Oct. 26, 1960.

Surviving are his wife; four children: Theresa (Bill) Clinemyer of Lilly, Susan Rickens of Altoona, Melissa at home and John (Jen) of Cresson; eight grandchildren: Billy, Trisha, Amber, Jason, Corey, Alyssa, Tommie and Christina; a stepgrandson, Isaac; nine great-grandchildren; and two siblings: Mary Kapustka and Donald (Peg), both of Gallitzin.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas A. III, on Dec. 26, 1999; two sisters: Edna Madigan and Virginia Miller; and two brothers: Jack and Edward Reagan.

Al worked as a coal miner for R&P Coal Corp. and Helen Mining. He was a former member of the Gallitzin American Legion, Italian Club, Gallitzin Sportsmen’s Association, Gallitzin Area Ambulance Service and Gallitzin Fire Company, and he was a member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.

Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, the Rev. Albert Ledoux as celebrant. Committal will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
