Ruth S. Butterbaugh

Ruth S. Butterbaugh, 92, a guest at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, died Friday at the manor.

She was born in Tyrone, daughter of T. Harry and Loretta (Blyler) Smith. She married George C. Butterbaugh on April 16, 1942, at First English Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1996.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Jane Bickle of Tyrone; two grandchildren: Katy (John) Coltabaugh of Tyrone and David (Laura) Bickle of Wayne; two great-grandchildren: Morgan and Nathan Bickle; a brother, William P. Smith (Betsy) of Tyrone; and a sister-in law, Ann Smith of Tyrone.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Eddie Bickle; and nine siblings: Alfaretta, Claude, Donald, Charlotte, Tom, Janet, Lelia, Naomi (twin) and David.

Ruth was a member of First English Lutheran Church and of the church choir and was a distinguished soloist, having been a singer since the age of 3. She had been a Gray Lady at the Tyrone Hospital and a volunteer at the hospital’s snack bar. She was very close to her large family, and their get-togethers frequently ended in a songfest.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at First English Lutheran Church, Pastor Susan Yatta officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
