Robert Patt, 94, Altoona, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Herman and Julia (Horowitz) Patt. He married M. Jane Patt on Aug. 25, 1942, and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2001.
Surviving are three children: P. Jules, David and Rick; and a brother, Henry. He was blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith.
Robert graduated from Altoona High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII, where his duties ranged from guarding munitions barges in New York Harbor to entertaining troops in exhibition basketball games. He and his brothers operated Patt’s Wholesale Produce before Robert left to start his own business as a commodities broker on the Chicago Board of Trade. He then started a real estate development company and, for more than 40 years, developed commercial, residential and retail properties from Pennsylvania to Florida.
Robert was a multidimensional man a relentless golfer, tough businessman and encouraging father. He was dedicated to his family and Temple Beth Israel. His joy for living and his ever-inquisitive nature will be sorely missed.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, by Rabbi Audrey Korotkin. Interment will be at Mount Sinai Cemetery.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Temple Beth Israel General Endowment Fund or American Cancer Society.
