Naomi A. Hickes

Naomi A. Hickes, 90, Tyrone, died Sunday at Epworth Manor, Tyrone.

She was born in Barree, daughter of the late Clair and Susan (Shoemaker) Gutshall. She married Willard M. Hickes on March 21, 1943, in Tyrone. He died Oct. 18, 1982.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Miller and husband, Thomas, of Tyrone; four sons: Charles W. and wife, Sue, of Carlisle, Robert C. and wife, Kathy, of Mechanicsburg, Thomas E. and wife, Karen, of York and Scott W. and wife, Mary Ellen, of Fogelsville; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Patricia Ritz of Duncansville and Jacqueline Starrick of Martinsburg.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth G.; four brothers; and four sisters.

Mrs. Hickes was a 1940 graduate of Alexandria High School. She assisted her husband in the family business, Hickes Grocery Store, Tyrone, for 30 years. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Tyrone.

Naomi was an avid quilter and enjoyed baking pies.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at First English Lutheran Church, Tyrone, with Pastor Susan Yatta officiating.

Interment will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery.
